Parents searching for the PT Organics fruit pouch recall should know that PT Organics Limited recalled select Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry Fruit Puree 4-ounce pouches because a packaging defect could allow a thin strand of soft, food-grade plastic to enter the puree. The recall was initiated July 13, 2026, and the FDA reported the enforcement action on August 12, 2026.
The affected pouches were sold nationwide through Kroger, Meijer, and Target between March 6 and July 13, 2026. The company says no injuries had been reported when the recall was announced.
Because these products are marketed for children, checking the pouch carefully is especially important. This guide explains exactly which products are affected, how to identify them, why they were recalled, where they were distributed, and what parents and caregivers should do.
Is There a PT Organics Fruit Pouch Recall?
Yes. PT Organics Limited issued a voluntary recall involving select Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry Fruit Puree Pouches.
The FDA identifies the recalled product as a 4-ounce (113-gram) pouch with UPC 8 15367 01078 0 and PTO Item 10720. The product is a pasteurized banana and strawberry puree packaged in a single-serving flexible pouch with a red cap and is intended for children age 6 months and older.
The FDA recall number is H-1223-2026, and the recall is classified as Class II. The enforcement record identifies the reason as a possible foreign object consisting of thin, soft plastic strands.

The recall applies specifically to:
| Product Detail | Recalled Information |
|---|---|
| Brand | Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics |
| Flavor | Banana & Strawberry |
| Product | Fruit Puree |

Which PT Organics Fruit Pouch Dates Are Affected?
Parents should check the best-before date printed in black ink on the back of the pouch.
The affected dates are:
- 01/19/2027
- 01/20/2027
- 03/17/2027
- 03/18/2027
- 05/14/2027
- 05/15/2027
The affected pouches also have the number 4 printed on the rear right-hand seam, identifying packaging production lane 4.
Quick Recall Identification Checklist
A pouch should be treated as part of the recall if it matches the applicable identifying details:
Product: Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry Fruit Puree
Size: 4 oz. / 113 g
Barcode: 8 15367 01078 0
Lane: Number 4 on the rear right-hand seam
Best-before dates: January 19, January 20, March 17, March 18, May 14, or May 15, 2027
Parents should compare the complete product information rather than relying only on the brand name.
Why Were PT Organics Fruit Pouches Recalled?
The recall resulted from an internal packaging defect that could allow a strand of soft, food-grade plastic from the inside of the pouch to detach and enter the finished fruit puree.
PT Organics said the recall began after its packaging supplier identified a defective production run. The company’s inspection of finished products made with that packaging confirmed that a soft plastic strand was attached to the inside of a small number of pouches.
This is therefore a foreign-material and packaging issue, not a recall announced because of bacteria such as Salmonella or Listeria.
Could the Plastic in the Pouches Be Dangerous?
The presence of a foreign plastic strand can present a physical hazard, particularly for young children. The Hawaiʻi Department of Health specifically noted that the soft plastic strand may cause injury or pose a choking hazard.
That does not mean that every recalled pouch contains plastic or that every child exposed to one would necessarily become ill. The recall exists because the packaging defect creates the potential for the foreign material to enter the food.
The safest approach is simple: do not feed a recalled pouch to a child.
Where Were the Recalled Fruit Pouches Sold?
The company says the recalled pouches were sold exclusively through Kroger, Meijer, and Target retail stores nationwide between March 6 and July 13, 2026.
The later FDA enforcement record lists distribution across multiple states, including:
- Alabama
- Arizona
- California
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Iowa
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Kansas
- Michigan
- Minnesota
- North Carolina
- New Jersey
- New York
- Ohio
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Texas
- Virginia
- Washington
- Wisconsin
The distribution list does not mean that every store in each state necessarily carried every affected pouch. It identifies the states associated with distribution in the FDA enforcement record.
How Can Parents Check Their Peter Rabbit Organics Pouch?
The easiest way is to inspect the back and side seam of the pouch.
Look for three key identifiers:
1. Check the Barcode
The affected pouch has barcode:
8 15367 01078 0
2. Check the Lane Number
Look at the rear right-hand side seam.
The recalled pouches have the number:
4
The FDA record describes this as the packaging production lane number.
3. Check the Best-Before Date
The affected dates are:
01/19/2027, 01/20/2027, 03/17/2027, 03/18/2027, 05/14/2027, and 05/15/2027.
If your pouch matches the product, barcode, lane number, and one of these dates, do not feed it to a child.
What Should Parents Do If They Have a Recalled Pouch?
PT Organics advises consumers and caregivers who have an affected product to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase. The company specifically says the recalled puree should not be eaten or fed to another person.
A practical approach is:
- Stop using the pouch.
- Do not squeeze or serve it to a child.
- Compare the barcode, lane number, and best-before date.
- If it matches the recall, dispose of it or return it to the retailer.
- Keep the packaging if you need the identifying information for a retailer or the manufacturer.
- Contact PT Organics if you have questions about a specific product.
Parents should also check whether other unopened pouches in the same purchase match the recalled identifiers.
What If a Child Already Ate a Recalled Pouch?
The recall announcement reported no injuries at the time it was issued.
If a child consumed an affected pouch, parents should not assume that an injury occurred simply because the product was recalled. However, because the concern involves possible physical plastic material, caregivers should pay attention to any unusual symptoms and contact a healthcare professional if they are concerned.
If a child appears to have difficulty breathing, is choking, or develops another emergency symptom, seek emergency medical assistance immediately.
For non-emergency concerns, a pediatrician or other healthcare professional can provide advice based on the child’s situation.
How Many PT Organics Fruit Pouches Were Affected?
The FDA enforcement record identifies 4,385 defective 4-ounce units from the total lot produced.
This figure is important because some reports may describe the recall more broadly as a recall of fruit pouches nationwide. The actual enforcement record identifies a specific product, size, packaging lane, and best-before dates.
Is the Recall for All Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Products?
No.
PT Organics stated that no other Pumpkin Tree-branded products, flavors, or best-before dates were affected by the recall.
The American Academy of Pediatrics also reported that the recall was limited to the Banana & Strawberry pouches identified by the specified barcode, lane number, and best-before dates.
This means parents should not automatically throw away unrelated Pumpkin Tree products just because they saw a headline about the recall.
Is the Strawberry-Banana Peter Rabbit Pouch Also Recalled?
This is an important distinction.
The recalled product is the Banana & Strawberry Fruit Puree with barcode 8 15367 01078 0.
The American Academy of Pediatrics reported that a separate Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Strawberry-Banana product with barcode 8 15367 01010 0 was not affected by this recall.
Because similar flavor names can be confusing, parents should check the actual barcode and other product identifiers instead of relying on the flavor name alone.
What Is the Difference Between the Recall Announcement and FDA Enforcement Record?
There are two dates worth understanding.
PT Organics announced the voluntary recall on July 21, 2026, and the FDA published the company announcement the same day.
The FDA enforcement record for recall H-1223-2026 was reported on August 12, 2026, while the recall itself was initiated July 13, 2026.
These dates describe different parts of the recall process and should not be treated as contradictory.
Is the PT Organics Fruit Pouch Recall Still Ongoing?
The FDA enforcement record currently identifies recall H-1223-2026 as an ongoing recall action, with a Class II classification.
That makes it especially important for parents researching the recall months after the initial July announcement to check the identifying information on their pouches rather than assuming the recall is no longer relevant.
What Should Parents Know About the Recall?
The most important point is that this is a specific product recall, not a recall of every children’s fruit pouch or every Pumpkin Tree product.
The affected item is the 4-ounce Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry Fruit Puree pouch with the specified barcode, lane number, and best-before dates. The concern is a potential soft plastic strand caused by a packaging defect.
Because the product is intended for children, caregivers should be particularly careful about checking unopened pouches stored at home.
If a package matches the recall information, it should not be served.
