When news broke that Jelly Roll files for divorce from Bunnie Xo, fans were surprised. The couple had spent nearly a decade together, publicly supported each other through major personal and professional changes, and had renewed their wedding vows in 2023.
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, in Williamson County, Tennessee, on May 18, 2026. Court documents listed May 9 as their separation date and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the legal grounds for divorce.
The story developed quickly. Both addressed the breakup publicly, with Bunnie explaining more about the argument that preceded the filing and Jelly Roll later saying that neither person cheated on the other as part of this split.
By July 2026, the divorce had been finalized. The former couple reached a settlement covering property, vehicles, an aircraft and intellectual property, along with a confidential one-time payment to Bunnie.
Here is what happened between the filing and the final settlement, what Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo have said, and what is known about their relationship now.
Did Jelly Roll File for Divorce From Bunnie Xo?
Yes.
Jelly Roll filed for divorce from Bunnie Xo on May 18, 2026, in Williamson County, Tennessee.
The filing came after almost 10 years of marriage. The couple had married in Las Vegas in August 2016 after meeting the previous year. Their divorce petition identified May 9, 2026, as their date of separation and cited irreconcilable differences.
The filing did not publicly identify one specific event as the legal cause of the divorce.
That distinction matters because much of the early online discussion focused on rumors about why the marriage ended. The court documents themselves used the standard legal description of irreconcilable differences rather than naming infidelity or another specific allegation as the cause.
When Did Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo Separate?
According to the divorce filing, the couple separated on May 9, 2026.
Jelly Roll filed the divorce petition nine days later, on May 18.
The relatively short period between the listed separation date and the filing contributed to the surprise surrounding the announcement.
For fans, the timing was especially notable because Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo had continued to maintain a highly visible relationship in public before the split became known.
Why Did Jelly Roll File for Divorce?
The official court filing cited irreconcilable differences.
That phrase does not provide a detailed explanation of everything that happened inside the marriage. It is a legal basis for divorce rather than a full account of the couple’s personal circumstances.
Later comments from Bunnie Xo provided additional context.
On her Dumb Blonde podcast, Bunnie explained that a serious argument occurred around Mother’s Day. She said she was frustrated and told Jelly Roll to file for divorce during the argument. She later clarified that she did not expect him to immediately act on those words and described herself as blindsided by the filing.
Bunnie’s account therefore added emotional context that was not contained in the original court filing.
Was the Jelly Roll Divorce Mutual?
The answer depends on what is meant by “mutual.”
Bunnie Xo said that the divorce filing itself was not mutual from her perspective. She explained that her comment during the argument was made out of anger and frustration and that she did not expect Jelly Roll to actually file the paperwork.
At the same time, the two ultimately handled the legal process cooperatively.
Reports about the settlement described the divorce as relatively amicable, with both parties agreeing to divide assets and debts rather than engaging in a prolonged public legal battle.
So while Bunnie described the filing as something that caught her off guard, the former couple later appeared committed to resolving the divorce respectfully.
Did Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo Divorce Because of Cheating?
There is an important distinction between their past relationship history and the reason for the 2026 divorce.
Bunnie previously revealed that Jelly Roll had cheated during a difficult period in their relationship in 2018. She discussed that experience in her 2026 memoir.
However, that should not be presented as the confirmed cause of the 2026 divorce.
After the split became public, Jelly Roll specifically addressed speculation about infidelity and said that “nobody cheated on nobody” in connection with the breakup.
The official divorce filing cited irreconcilable differences.
Therefore, the most accurate description is that the couple’s 2026 divorce was legally based on irreconcilable differences, while both had separately discussed difficult periods in their earlier relationship.
What Did Bunnie Xo Say About the Divorce?
Bunnie Xo eventually spoke openly about the emotional impact of the separation.
On her podcast, she described Jelly Roll as her best friend and said that he had played an important role in the person she had become. She also explained that their relationship problems had partly involved communication and disagreements about their future.
Her comments made clear that the end of the marriage did not automatically mean the end of their emotional connection.
Bunnie also said that she and Jelly Roll remained close and intended to maintain a relationship after the divorce.
What Did Jelly Roll Say About Bunnie Xo?
Jelly Roll also addressed the split publicly.
During a performance, he told the audience that he and Bunnie remained best friends and that he would continue to love her. He also rejected speculation that cheating had caused the breakup.
His comments reinforced an important part of the story: the divorce did not appear to involve the kind of public hostility that often accompanies celebrity breakups.
Instead, both continued to speak about one another with affection and respect.
How Long Were Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo Married?
Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo were married for almost 10 years.
They married in Las Vegas in August 2016 after meeting in 2015. The couple later renewed their vows in 2023.
Their relationship became a major part of both of their public identities.
Jelly Roll frequently discussed his family and personal transformation, while Bunnie built her own media career through the Dumb Blonde podcast and other projects.
That history made the 2026 divorce especially significant to their fans.
Did Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo Have Children Together?
Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo did not have a biological child together during their marriage.
Jelly Roll has two children from previous relationships, and Bunnie was involved in their family life.
The couple had also publicly discussed plans to have a child together.
Even after their separation, Bunnie said they intended to continue pursuing that goal and potentially co-parent.
That unusual situation became one of the more widely discussed aspects of their divorce.
What Happened to Their $6 Million Tennessee Home?
One of the notable elements of the divorce settlement involved the couple’s Tennessee property.
Bunnie later said that Jelly Roll gave her ownership of their approximately $6 million Franklin, Tennessee, estate as part of the divorce arrangement.
The property had significant personal importance to Bunnie, and she described the overall settlement in positive terms.
However, the settlement also involved other assets, meaning the home was only one part of a broader property division.
What Assets Were Included in the Divorce Settlement?
The final settlement covered several categories of property and financial interests.
According to reporting based on court documents, the couple agreed to divide:
- Homes and real estate
- Vehicles
- An aircraft
- Intellectual property
- Other marital assets and debts
Jelly Roll also agreed to make a confidential one-time lump-sum payment to Bunnie. The arrangement eliminated future alimony claims between the former couple.
The exact financial amount of the lump-sum payment was not publicly disclosed.
Was the Jelly Roll Divorce Finalized?
Yes.
Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo finalized their divorce in July 2026, roughly two months after the initial filing became public. PEOPLE confirmed that the former couple had finalized the divorce after reaching a settlement.
The speed of the process was notable considering the couple’s long marriage and the amount of property involved.
Reports indicated that both wanted to avoid a prolonged legal dispute and instead reach an agreement respectfully.
What Does the Divorce Settlement Say About Alimony?
The settlement reportedly included a one-time confidential payment from Jelly Roll to Bunnie.
That payment means there would be no ongoing alimony claims between the former spouses under the reported agreement.
Because the exact amount was confidential, claims online about a specific dollar figure should be treated carefully unless supported by the actual court documents.
Are Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo Still Friends?
Publicly, both have described their post-divorce relationship as close.
Jelly Roll has referred to Bunnie as his best friend, while Bunnie has similarly continued to speak warmly about him.
Reports following the settlement described the two as remaining supportive of one another even though their marriage had ended.
That makes their situation different from many celebrity divorces in which former spouses publicly criticize each other after separating.
Did Jelly Roll Start Dating Again After the Divorce?
Reports following the split indicated that Jelly Roll had begun dating again, while Bunnie said she was taking time for herself.
However, the former couple continued to maintain a friendship and discussed their plans for co-parenting a child.
Because their personal lives remain developing, social-media speculation should not automatically be treated as confirmed relationship news.
What Happened After the Divorce?
Following the finalization, Jelly Roll focused heavily on his music career, touring and personal health.
A source cited by Page Six said he was doing well after the settlement and wanted the divorce handled fairly and respectfully.
Bunnie also continued working on her podcast and media projects.
The two therefore moved into separate personal and professional chapters while maintaining an unusual level of communication and mutual support.
